In Saudi Arabia, outdoor underground water pipes generally use ductile iron pipes or HDPE pipes. Among them, HDPE pipe is a relatively popular water pipe material in recent years. It has obvious advantages in terms of use effect and cost, so the proportion of HDPE water pipes is increasing.

Outdoor underground water pipe in Saudi Arabia is regulated by the Ministry of Water and Electricity (MOWE). According to the MOWE’s regulations, underground water pipes must be laid at least 1.5 meters below the ground surface. The pipes must be made from HDPE material and must have a diameter of at least 50 millimeters. The pipes must also be laid in a straight line and at a maximum depth of two meters. The installation of the pipe must follow the local and regional codes and should be done by a licensed professional. Additionally, the pipes must be tested and certified by a licensed plumber or technician prior to installation.

What material is generally used for outdoor underground water pipes?

In Saudi Arabia, outdoor underground water pipes generally use ductile iron pipes or HDPE pipes. The following are their respective characteristics.

Ductile iron pipe

Ductile iron pipes are made of molten iron, which has a relatively high melting point, consumes a large amount of energy for processing, is relatively large in size, and is inconvenient for transportation. In addition, the surface of the ductile iron pipe is relatively rough, resulting in relatively large water resistance. Note that after using this type of water pipe for 1 to 3 years, it is easy to cause the pH value of the water to rise, and the water will be affected to some extent.

HDPE pipe

The melting point required for HDPE pipes is relatively low, and the energy consumption required for processing and molding is relatively small. The smoothness of the inner wall of the pipe is high, the water flow resistance generated is small, and the energy saving effect is also good. In addition, HDPE material is non-toxic and harmless, and does not react with water.

It can be seen from the above characteristics of ductile iron pipes and HDPE pipes that HDPE pipes have obvious advantages. This is also the reason why more HDPE pipes are used in outdoor underground water pipes in Saudi Arabia.

What should be paid attention to in the construction of outdoor underground water pipes?

1. For water pipes buried in the ground, the outdoor part must reach below the freezing depth. For the indoor part, the burial depth should be determined according to the diameter of the water pipe. For example, if the diameter is 15 to 50mm, then the depth needs to be about 0.45m. And if it is directly 65 to 80mm, it needs to be buried about 0.6m.

2. When installing water pipes, it is also necessary to pay attention that the water supply pipes must be above the drain pipes and at the same level, and the distance between the water pipes should be controlled at more than 2m. If the trench is laid, the water supply pipe should be under the functional pipe or on the other side.

3. When installing each pipeline, it is necessary to have a bracket for fixing work. If the standpipe is a steel pipe, the storey height must be controlled within 5m, and pipe clamps need to be set up on each floor.

Packaging of outdoor underground water pipes

Most of the pipes are not packed, and the pipe fittings are made of large cartons with small paper boxes or small plastic bags. Transportation methods of outdoor underground water pipes

Outdoor underground water pipes are generally transported by road, rail and sea. Because the pipe fittings are relatively large, it is generally not shipped by air, unless there is a small urgent shipment. Precautions when transporting HDPE outdoor underground water pipes

1. HDPE pipes should not be rolled on hard uneven ground or gravel ground for short-distance transportation to prevent damage to the pipe.

2. When the inner diameter of HDPE pipes is greater than 1000mm, it is not suitable to be stacked for transportation. If small-diameter pipes are stacked for transportation, the HDPE pipes should be kept stable, and gaps should be left between the pipes to prevent the pipes from sliding.

3. When HDPE pipes are stacked for transportation, their height should not exceed 2 meters. Where vehicles and boats are in contact with pipelines, it is required to be flat and fixed to the means of transport with flexible belts or ropes to prevent rolling and collisions.

4. If the inner diameter of HDPE pipe is greater than or equal to 1000mm, a support ring should be added for transportation. When the inner diameter is greater than 2000mm, a support ring must be added.

Precautions when storing HDPE outdoor underground water pipes

1. When the HDPE outdoor underground water pipe is placed directly on the ground, the ground is required to be flat, without stones and sharp objects that are likely to cause damage to the pipe, and measures to prevent the pipe from rolling are required.

2. When stacking HDPE outdoor underground water pipes with different pipe diameters, the large and heavy ones should be put down, and the light ones should be placed on the top. The two sides of the pipes should be blocked by wooden wedges or planks. When placing them, pay attention to the load-bearing capacity of the bottom pipes, and the stacking height should not exceed 2.4m. , the deformation shall not be greater than 6%.

3. The maximum operating temperature of HDPE outdoor underground water pipes is 45 degrees Celsius, which is high temperature in summer. Sun exposure should be avoided, and air circulation between the pipes should be kept to prevent temperature rise.

4. During the storage of HDPE outdoor underground water pipes, waterproof measures should be strictly taken, and the sockets should be kept clean.

5. It is strictly forbidden to have long-term open flames near the pipeline.
